20 BOOKS KICKS OFF TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FOR SINGLE PARENT MOMS, KIDS
HAMTRAMCK — 20 Books, a community partner of the Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA), is inside a purchase agreement as of April 27, 2017 to acquire the Quit Claim Deed for 2457 Dearing Street, Detroit, Michigan 48212 from the DLBA. Our goal is to transform this dilapidated 2-story apartment structure into a beautiful transitional dwelling for single parent mothers and their dependents. A place where 20 Books literacy programs may operate for the transitional residents and a site for urban gardening. Any support towards this goal in the form of volunteerism or cash gifts are in immediate need.
BOOKY GIVES AWAY AETNA DONATION
FLINT — Booky the Bestseller, 20 Book's new and official mascot for youth outreach, makes his lucky winner announcement via the official 20 Books Facebook fan page. Meredith Watson of Detroit is the winner of the March 2017, 20 Books Backpack Raffle. Valued at more than $100, the backpack was a donation from Aetna Inc., a health care company operating in the City of Detroit. Booky The Bestseller, was acquired as a direct result of the hard work of several volunteers. Volunteers went door-to-door fundraising throughout Wayne and Oakland county selling chocolate chip cookies and scented body creams over the winter of 2016. And a big thanks to all the local businesses that contributed to the success of this fundraising effort and who welcomed this brand of youth engagement.
