THE 20 BOOKS MISSION
We adhere to this by committing to the following:
• Promote the reading of academic, vocational and self-motivational books
• Ensure the permanence of 20 Books by developing broad-based financial stability
• Expand our 'Reading Gift Program' to create incentives to read
• Execute our 'Community Libraries Program' to create literacy movements
• Create certification programs through the 'Booky The Bestseller' Youth Outreach
A 'Team 313 Detroit organizer and then collaborator with 20 Books, breaks from a Team 313 Detroit neighborhood blight clean-up effort in Detroit's east side to promote literacy with neighborhood children. There's no better time than the present to exercise and develop our minds through reading. The desire to experience books is one that's not always fallen upon but instead fostered. Please join 20 Books in our community outreach going forward.
Our outreach gem is The 20 Books Community Library Program based in the metropolitan Detroit area. However, the Reading Gift program is open statewide to anyone who qualifies be it on an academic and/or financially indigent basis.
TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR LITERACY
1. MORNING MEAL
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it affects body and mind performance.
2. DAILY EXERCISE
Outdoor air, sunshine and exercise promote healthy living and heightened physical and mental aptitude.
3. LESS TV
In 2009, the Nielsen Co. reported that children's TV viewing had reached an eight-year high.
Children ages 2 to 5 watched TV for more than 32 hours a week. Time that would be better served reading.
4. READ MORE
Increased reading better develops your ability to process words. It sparks visualization and abstract thought.
If reading is fostered, all reading can be a pleasant and enjoyable experience.
5. GO TO BED
Doctors recommend 11 hours of sleep for children ages 7 to 12. Lack of sleep interferes with the ability to concentrate and process information.
