20 BOOKS HOST FUNDRAISER AT THE MOTOR CITY YACHT CLUB
DETROIT — 20 Books, Inc., hosted its 2nd Annual 20 Books Harvest Fest Fundraiser at the new Motor City Yacht Club in Detroit. Attendants were a distinguished mix of regional business owners, community activists, and local residents. This Facebook screenshot is from a post by Jaiden Shepard, a 24-year-old fashion designer who attended the fundraiser. Shepard is the owner of Vintage Ties by Jaiden, LLC (VTJ).
Shepard through VTJ customizes and alters vintage items for photo shoots, special events, and entertainment performances. VTJ has been in fashion show appearances including WALK Fashion Show, Michigan Fashion Week, and during New York Fashion Week. Shepard is featured in local magazines that include BLAC Detroit, Haute Is, and TopFlight Magazine online. He too has appeared on TV's FOX 2 News 'Style File' segment, and on 'Industry Talk TV with Mahogany Mignon.' A 'VTJ' blazer and tie set was also featured on one of the male hosts of the BET Experience at L.A. Live 2013 and Black Hollywood Live.

20 Book's Harvest Fest Fundraiser was the charity's first. MC'd by Jaurice Clay, former instructor of Oakland Community College. The Keynote speakers were Esperanza Gailliard, CEO of Native Voices United, a First American Activist; Yusef B. Shakur, national activist for urban crisis and author; Dr. John Telford, former DPS Superintendent and author; and Kofi Myler, Board Chair and President of 20 Books. Lape Soul Food catered the food for this wonderful event. Attendees featured Arts & Scraps.

Freeway Rick Ross Advocates for Literacy
The Stop the Bullying, Stop the Violence Summit was organized by a local Detroit nonprofit named Higher Educational Funding, SBoy Promotions and Network Entertainment Resources. 20 Books partnered with Higher Educational Funding to feature Freeway Rick Ross, the infamous LA rock cocaine kingpin who now adamantly speaks against the illicit drug trade and also advocates for literacy after teaching himself how to read and write as an adult while incarcerated in federal penitentiary.
